Overview

Go Tap aims to work with government, communities and corporations as well as the public and the media in order to reach its goal of reducing bottled water use. One of the most effective ways toward this end is the increased availability of public water fountains.

Go Tap commissioned research about public perceptions of water fountains in their local council area. It found:

    - 90% of respondents couldn’t identify where bubblers were located in their local are

            - 78% believe that there should be more bubblers available for the public

            - 66% would drink less bottled water if they had better access to high quality water fountains.

We encourage local councils, towns, organisations, schools and universities, and corporations around Australia to take on the challenge of reducing bottled water use in their area through the installation of high quality water fountains.

Solution

Go Tap partner Street Furniture Australia, inspired by the bottled water campaign, has designed the Arqua Station.

The Arqua water system features a sculpture-like fountain design coupled with a practical and sleek refill post, which has the capacity for an optional filter. The refill station allows for the easy replenishment of refillable bottles.

This new design overcomes many of the problems associated with older style bubblers, tackles the deposit of litter and drain blockage. The Arqua system is also vandalism resistant, eco-friendly and more hygienic. Importantly, it is accessible to wheelchair users and children.

Made from hot-dipped galvanized steel with a vandal and corrosion resistant cast aluminium construction. The Arqua fountain has excellent durability. It features a stainless steel sprout, a tamper-free nozzle, and a sub-surface mounting pit for drainage.

The Arqua system refill post is especially designed to allow you to personalise it for your community with an area for your graphics, which is protected by an anti-graffiti film.

Bundanoon

The NSW highlands town of Bundanoon decided to ban the sale of bottled water in September 2009. As part of the initiative the town installed several Arqua systems, donated by Street Furniture Australia, to provide residents and visitors with access to water, either from the drinking spout or the refill post. One of the fountains was installed at Bundanoon Primary School to ensure that school children will always be able to quench their thirst.

Bundanoon is an example of a community taking up the challenge to reduce the environmental and financial consequences of bottled water, supported by the installation of high quality water fountains.

The Bundanoon experience was overwhelmingly welcomed by the community and can serve as a model for other communities, schools, university campuses, corporations and local councils to emulate.

If you’re thinking about installing the Arqua system please contact Do Something. We would love to discuss the benefits water fountains can have for your community and the environment. With better access to high quality drinking fountains we can reduce the reliance on bottled water and help build a more sustainable environment for future generations.
